A few days ago, we made an announcement that said we were closely watching the COVID-19 outbreak, and we would make decisions regarding Connect Church with 2 Timothy 1:7 in mind; not to act according to “a spirit of fear, but of power, love and self-discipline.”

As many of you know, today our provincial officials have enacted a set of rules aimed at slowing down transmission of the novel coronavirus. Included in those measures was a ban on medium and large gatherings (defined as having 250 or more people). While the AHS directive specifically exempted houses of worship, we have decided that we must exhibit love and self-discipline in these unprecedented times.

Accordingly, beginning this Sunday March 15th, Connect Church will be hosting an online-only worship experience until the threat of the coronavirus passes. Let me be clear: No one can cancel church! Church is the people of God, engaged in the worship of God, sharing the word of God. This means that church services can take many different forms - even ones that are digital!

We encourage our entire church family to join us here on our website, on our church Facebook page, or on YouTube to view a video message from Pastor’s Dan and Amber this Sunday at 10am. We will also include other elements of worship and our ConnectKids teaching videos for your children to watch. We will share more details regarding the online service in the next few days. For now, enjoy the fact that you get to “attend church” in your PJs! And who knows - maybe this online format means that people in your life who weren’t likely to attend Connect in person, might just tune in online!

Please see the FAQ below for more information. And know that Amber and I are not the least bit worried about this new chapter. In fact, we are full of faith that God is going to make it one of the highlights of our spiritual journey together!

ANSWERING YOUR QUESTIONS:

What really motivated this decision? You are our family! We don’t want to see our immediate or extended family sick; this is a difficult but helpful step we can take to “love your neighbour as yourself.” We do not know of anyone at Connect who is currently positive for the Coronavirus.

How long will it be before we are back to Sunday services at Cineplex? We really don’t know. Our hope is that this will be a very temporary measure, but we are prepared to continue to be the church even while we are unable to gather as the church.

What about Connect Groups? We will be contacting each of our group leaders and allowing them to make a decision regarding their group. If you are currently a part of one of our 17 amazing groups, your leader will be in contact with you very soon.

Is there anything we can do to help? Absolutely! First, attend our online services just as faithfully as you would our in-person services. Second, please continue to give generously using our online options (www.ConnectCalgary.ca/give). Third, keep your ears open for opportunities to wisely be the hands and feet of Jesus during this time. Our world is currently overwhelmed with fear, but we are overflowing with LIFE!
